As of March 1, 2026, Georgia has overhauled its work permit system. The stay period for Turkish citizens with a national ID has been reduced to 3 months. If you have long-term plans, a residence permit is no longer a luxury—it's a necessity.

Since early 2026, Georgia has fundamentally updated its regulations for foreigners. We've prepared a simple summary for you.

January 1, 2026

Mandatory Health Insurance

Health insurance is now mandatory for all foreigners entering Georgia. Entry and stay without insurance are not permitted.

March 1, 2026

New Duration Rule for Turkish Citizens

The entry period with a national ID has been reduced from 1 year to 3 months. The entry period with a passport remains 1 year. A residence permit is required for long-term stays.

March 1, 2026

New Work Permit System

The old system has been abolished. A "Right to Work" permit is now required to work, do business, or provide services. The penalty for working without a permit starts at 2,000 GEL per person.

April 2026

Improvement for Individual Entrepreneurs

Freelancers and remote workers serving clients abroad have been exempted from the new permit requirement. The previous 50,000 GEL turnover requirement has been removed.
